Our Xmas tree!!

Pretttttyyyyyyyyyyyy Or not?

It’s our first Xmas(and first Xmas tree) in our new home! =D

I spent like 3 hours or more on it okay? No small feat. Especially it’s my 1st time doing up a Xmas tree! =D

Dearie asked me to wait for him to do together but I was simply too excited and started myself!! I also wish to surprise him lah. =)

If you look closely, this Xmas tree is unlike NORMAL trees wor!!! Each and every branch upon unwrapping spreads like a flower with snow dust on it. =D So far haven seen any Xmas trees that look quite as gorgeous as it! It’s around 5 feet tall. Bought it at $88 from a florist near Artbox at Jurong Point.

As for the decorations stuff and lightings, we bought them from NTUC because they’re cheaper. I also used some remaining wire gold/pink ribbons to make gigantic ribbons to hang on the tree. Only the gigantic golden star was bought from the shop where we bought the tree.

Total costs of tree = $150

For the effect, I think it’s pretty decent. =)

Oh Actually we’re also not experienced and we didnt bought enough decorations. Only managed to decorate around 3/4 of the tree. 1 Box of lightings wasnt really enough too. But heck, I was so deadbeat that I simply turned the tree so that the side of the undecorated portion face the wall.

Also cant see mah. =P

Seriously, the tree looks good even when it’s plain. =)

Actually the tree was already up slightly before Dec. And then I heard it’s actually not advisable to do up a Xmas Tree before Dec? Some superstitious thingy? Anyone heard before? Hmmm……..not Christians so not sure of it. Hopefully nothing bad. =P

Xmas is in the air!~!~!~

Finally!

Yes! Finally a clock!

We have been living “clockless” since the day we moved in because we didnt see any suitable ones back then and also because we dont know how to go about nailing it on the wall as it was pretty heavy. Thank god father-in-law came to our rescue!

I think the green matches our living room and the middle was kind of like a mirror.
Bought it at a shop in Jurong Point.

And finally!!

A wall monument to serve as a bedside table.

Is’nt it lovely? Bought it at a shop in Fareast Plaza. It only arrived end April.

Why that, instead of a similar, nice, decent, french-styled bedside table which I got for the left side of the bed? Like this.

That’s because of the stupid bulging wall next to the right side of bed. Saw it?

A normal side-table wouldnt look adjacent to the left against that bulging wall. Not to mention extremely ugly and out of the way. What’s more, it’s super difficult to find one which matches the room. It would be perfect if it’s in cream. However, it’s still great. Now dearie can put his glasses, handphone, room phone and probably a mug too on it.

Mummy made this for our new home! Finally it was put up.

Renovation Tips

(P/S If you’re someone with MANY MANY MANY barang barang, then this post is great for you! Lol.)

No matter how tired I am when I reached home after work, my house will always bring a smile to my face. It’s not a lavish nor a big home but I really do love it. I think that’s because not only because it’s comfy, it’s very practical and suit my needs. Perhaps I can share some tips for upcoming home owners. Might be boring to some though, haha.

I think an ideal home is one which oozes warmth and lets you look forward to coming home every day. Every room or area should serve it’s purpose because I’m a very practical, efficiency-oriented and lazy person. Haha. Apart from the reno works, the furnitures you buy are also very important. Know what you want, spend some time to think about it and you will appreciate the ease and convenience which you’re going to enjoy later, for at least a couple of years.

Tips
1) Always discuss with your partner what he wants and what you want—>Compromise
You wont want misunderstandings nor conflicts later. There will (almost) never be a couple who wants EXACTLY the same details. Therefore, accommodate and prioritize, together with practicality.

For hubby, he’s actually a more visual person(which guy isnt? Duhz) and his concept is very simple. Everything must LOOK GOOD. Despite sometimes they’re not practical at all. On the other hand, I’m more practical and logical, though I still have a minimum standard of visual pleasure. And so, from there we compromise.
We know that every decision we make is going to affect our next 5-8years of life.

For example, he wants a beautiful chandelier and absolutely no ugly standing fans in the living room. I know very well that I cant tolerate the hot weather and so I voiced out, “then it’s a must to install aircon in the living room.” With every decision made/changed, there’s always a chain reaction. With an aircon in living room, we need to consider the higher electricity costs and the total number of aircons we’re going to have, i.e system 3 or system 4 etc.

Hubby actually wanted the typical condo layout, with grey grey walls looking classy and everything. I actually worry that might make the house look grim and smaller too. I would have accommodated him(since he’s paying. Haha) until the fengshui master specified that beige is more for us. Hubby is okie with it so beige it is. We took a long time to decide the right shade of beige and it is great. You can advise your painter to get a small tub and paint a small area for you to view first. Just so you wont regret later.

2) Work out dimensions and buy the right furnitures/electronics
It will help greatly in buying furnitures if you already know what design and layout you’re going to adopt. From there, work out the dimensions and make sure you dont buy something too big or too small. Although at times, it’s still very difficult to visualise despite having the dimensions. You probably wont buy something too big, but you might get something too small.

For example, I feel our sofa and tv console turned out smaller than expected. Why, it looked pretty huge in the shop, perhaps because it’s in white. I wished both of them are longer. And suddenly we realised our living aint that small, even when we put in a writing table to separate a working area. That’s why we’re very careful of choosing bulky furnitures, for fear of the living room looking cluttered. Anyway, I was glad that our living room still look spacious. Very spacious indeed, it can probably contain another 2 mahjiong tables. =.=”’

For electronics, I mostly meant the LCD TV. Make sure the TV you bought is neither too big or too small. For that, you have to establish the distance between the sofa and tv console.

Apart from the size, also established the positions of the furnitures and more importantly, their use. I know very well that I’m a barang barang person with LOTS and LOTS of stuff, especially clothes. So, a giant wardrobe is a must. Dont be shabby on the details of the custom-made wardrobe. Think through what you’re going to put inside apart from clothes. How much clothings to be hanged and how much to be folded? How many bags compartment you need? Etc.

I will share what are some of the important details which are extremely useful to me. And I’m SO GLAD that some of these important decisions werent successfully swayed by the ID or contractors. You need to be firm at times, and of course, BARGAIN. They will say things like, “nobody do it like this” or say dampening things so sway your decision(to cut cost) but if you did enough research, just believe in yourself and be firm!

We have these large drawers made for our folded clothings.

Vastly preferred them to my friends’ usual compartments as I dont have to dig for clothings which are stuffed all the way inside. In fact, I hardly need to pull them out as there’s ample light, especially for the clothings placed outside.

A portion of compartments for bags, my shitload of hair accessories and stuff etc.

Wired baskets(work like drawers) are also extremely useful for undergarments. 1 for me and 1 for hubby. Do remember to bargain for them so that they’re included. By the way, if you’re one who owns many bras, you might need more than 1 basket as it’s not huge. Haha.

Other than wardrobes, below are some stuff which I love.

Master bedroom toilet’s mirror cabinet set

Almost all my skincare and tube masks got inside, saving me so much space. Though it’s not as if I use them always. But it’s a good reminder though.

The cabinet beneath the sink is also very useful for storing toilet papers, shampoos, shower foams, pads, toilet bowl cleaners etc. Very handy when you just run out of toilet paper! It stores everything neatly and out of sight, isnt it great?

My dressing table. I wonder if you find this cluttered but this is like the best I can manage because it’s more practical to keep all the necessities within reach. Like basic skincare/makeup, lens, watches, accessories, perfumes etc. No problem for me when it doesnt have a huge mirror as I usually use a smaller mirror for makeup. I have another longer length IKEA mirror in the room, so no problem. =)

As I said, I’m simply….someone with TOO many stuff and normal dressing tables really cant suit my needs.

Hmm…this is a french bedside table and I love it to bits. Not only is it classy, it’s very practical too. On it is a Victorian-styled lamp(love love, with dimmer too!), aroma therapy, alarm clock and we usually placed our specs, handphones and a mug on it too.

Inside the drawer? Mini lighter for lighting the aroma therapy candles, small Buddhism scripture(you never know when you need it. HAHA.), facial/eye masks(sometimes can use when I’m playing lappy just before I sleep. Hee), mini hairclips, ear piece(so that wont disturb hubby when he’s sleeping), aircon remote and eye-drops. The cabinet beneath it, we have things like aroma therapy candles cum solutions, body lotion, condoms etc. HAHAHA.

It’s SO useful.

We always see tiny bedside tables being sold outside, and as I say, they really dont suit my needs because I’m a very troublesome person. Hahaha.

French lounge chair. Abit too small for our room, sigh, but still nice. =) Usually I will put our home lappy there before I sleep as well as my handbag etc.

Our white tv console. Do not underestimate this console as it actually has a total of 6 drawers right before your eyes! I thought it was great for us as we have shitloads of Hk TVB dramas, DVDs, VCDs, CDs etc. What’s more, our wedding albums are also inside. Guests can view easily if they come. =) The drawers are fully utilised. =P

Okie lastly, for the kitchen…

These giant drawers are great. They can store alot of things and it’s very easy to pull them out. Make sure your ID use good hinges though. They’re much better than conventional 2-door cabinets as you dont have to dig for stuff placed all the way inside.

I’m SO GLAD I didnt listen to the ID’s advice and make normal 2-door cabinets instead. Giant drawers are so much more practical and look classier too! They dont even need anti-slam when they’re occupied as they closed easily softly. =)

Of course we still have 2-door cabinets under the stove and kitchen sink, they cant be replaced because of the gas pipings and sink pipings. But other than those, mine are all giant drawers.

3) Decide whether you’re staying there for good
If you cant decide and dont know, buying movable furnitures is a safer bet. With lesser built-in items, it will also give you a higher value if you’re selling your house in the future. And the movable furnitures, if they’re still usable, can also save you some costs. The kitchen, however, is unavoidable la, will be built-in.

4) 2-way switches
Use them wisely and only when necessary. It’s not fun when you have too many switches on your walls. Usually it’s useful when there is a long walk way or corridor outside the rooms or for mansionette. The common switches are; 1) corridor lights, 2-way switches to be put in the masterbed room and along the corridor. They’re usually used at night if you need a get a drink and it’s too dark to grope along the walk way. Another one could be the living room lights, 2-way switches to be put along the entrance to the living room and near the main door, so that you can off the lights just when you’re leaving the house and also light up the living room when you’re out from your room.

Many people spent bombs on reno and furnitures and the houses look great. But as a matter of fact, most of them dont look as nice after many years down the road. Why? Because the house became cluttered with things thrown everywhere when there’s not enough proper storage to store them convenientyly. When furnitures dont suit your needs, it creates inconvenience and in turn, cause clutters as we cant be very diligent ALL the time. It’s unavoidable that you will certainly buy more things through time but if you have enough storage and maintain neat habits, your house will look pleasurable at any time. And definitely welcoming everytime you reach home. =D

Alrighty. Hope it serves some insight for upcoming home owners.

Cheers!

I’m a slave

I should probably be sleeping now but I thought I’ll just pen down a few paragraphs as I’ve been neglecting this blog for quite some time.

Other than “tired” and “dead”(where you piece both together to become dead-tired), I dont know what else to say. Having your own house and living in it with your dearest is such a sweet thing…until it comes to the maintenance part. Those who had seen my house will probably know I’m a slave…..A–S-L-A-V-E, to my “white” house. “White” house is because we have many white colour furnitures. Gorgeous as they come, they’re a chore to maintain. We had moved in around 1 month and the need to clean the sofa and kitchen cabinets had already risen.

Let me see.

My sofa is white.
My tv console is white.
So is my coffee table.
Writing desk.
Dressing table.
Office cabinets.
Wardrobe laminates.
Kitchen cabinets.
Kitchen counter top
Shoe cabinet.
Dining bar stools.

Good lord! Silly me. I should have state which furnitures are NOT in white instead. BAH!

Thanks to my dear hubby loh who is such a fan of white colour. I do admit they are beautiful(and pure. Haha) but everytime we decide a piece(of white furniture), I’ll go…”die le..this time die le…”

Anyway, what’s done is done la, what’s bought were bought la. I still love my home, just have to spend effort to maintain it so that it look as much as 100% when we 1st bought it. Many had asked me to post pictures of them in blog/facebook. But my camera really cant make it, i.e; they cant capture the real *ahem* pureness and elegance(wahahaha!) of my home. So if you’re really interested then just drop by. My lovely pink stripey mahjiong tiles await you. =)

Caught many movies during the new year. Ranked from the best to the worst, they’re…

1) Percy Jackson and the lightning thief
2) Hot Summer days
3) Valentines day
4) 72 tenants of Prosperity
5) Little big soldier
6) All’s well ends well too 2010

Though I wished Zac Efron starred as Percy instead. Haha.

I didnt really gambled much during the new year though I feel my luck is not bad. Played blackjack and mostly mahjiong because I dont have the interest to play blackjack for continuously 1 hour and more. I will get bored despite I did blackjack few times. On the whole, I think I won abit only lah for the new year..perhaps less than $100. Though the angbaos I gave out probably triple that la. Hahaha. Nevermind~ Heng heng huat huat la!

Finally booked our honeymoon. Initially dearie thought can plan to watch his team(spurs) play in London live but it’s almost impossible to arrange the tour… Despite I called many agencies and searched all that, it’s still not possible to arrange especially when extension cant be confirmed till the last day. We cant possibly buy the match tickets prior to that. Unless we go free-and-easy but that wont do because we had never been to Europe. Dearie is pretty disappointed but he understand…Sigh..bo bian.

Our trip will be in early Apr for 12 days to Switz, Paris and London. Actually we hoped it can be around 14 days instead, visiting maybe 4 countries but packages of 14-15days were mostly covering 6 countries and above. We both find it too packed and rushed. The last we want is a honeymoon which is too tiring with 50% transportation so we settled for this easy-paced package with ASA tour. Actually, no matter it’s 12 or 14 days, I bet we will be dreading the flight back to Sg on the last day one. Confirmed one la.

Hopefully we can get to visit Gen in London and she can bring us around. =) I’m glad I’m still able to attend Summer’s wedding in end APR. =)

Arena + house *ok, pics up*

I thought I had recover my voice but this morning, my voice was hoarse again. Probably because yesterday night I shouted too much, amidst the noisy environment in Arena. I like the band though and the music. WX, SL and me shared a bottle of vodka after paying our entry which came with 2 drinks. Aiya. Nevertheless, a very fun night!

Something weird about Arena is..it is considered bright for a clubbing place. And nobody dances! I was like the only siao char bor dancing there. But not very drama kind lah..slow, subtle kind, I think. HAHA. SL took pictures, will get from her to update bah. I really think my blog lacked pictures..just not enthu to snap lately. I didnt even snap pictures of my new house, yet.

I suddenly find it very funny that every time I club, in my very very vague memory, I will end up playing 5-10 with the neighbour table. Okie lah, it isnt such a bad thing to make new friends especially when my facebook is so stagnant. But just not enthu already. Talk about out of the scene. (=.=)””’

SL drank really little and she looked uber cute with her specs. Really love her complexion. =) WX got drunk! We sent him home. He’s pretty heavy! Imagine handling a medium sized tipsy man with my high heels. I insisted sending him to his block(by foot) and was particularly perplexed why he didnt want the taxi to drop him there. I finally let him on his own when he insisted to go up his storey himself. The neighbour table guys were pretty helpful. They helped us to hold WX from Arena right to the cab area. It was around 2-3am. Dont remember.

I was rather tipsy too actually. And SL dropped me off after WX. We still left half a bottle so will be going back within a month to finish it. =P

Alrighty. Some pictures.

SL looked so cute in her specs! I looked damn bah bah loh..cant stand. Argghh.

Dono simi vodka..

WX very enthu in taking pics

The BFF

Urgh. Dont know why I look slutty here.

**********************************************

My house is mostly completed except

1) toilet accessories not yet installed
2) a piece of kitchen glass backsplash pending due to wrong measurements
3) kitchen gas haven connect
4) sofa to be redeliver due to my rejection.
5) casement unit aircon to be installed in common room(wait for mover)
6) storage bed to be assembled(wait for mover)
7) sticking of wall decals
8) curtains not up yet…early feb. Sigh.

Hopefully can get 4) by coming week. Stupid loh. Some problem with the mechanism and one big yellow patch behind on the white leather. Dont they have a basic QC check before delivering. Waste time and effort.

As for 1), thanks to Hoe Kee, I just realised the vanity cabinet got a crack. It looks hairless but my plumber told me dont risk it because the heavy basin will be sitting on top of it. Haiz. Hope delivery can be done soon. Need to arrange with plumber again.

Basically I’m very satisfied with the overall look of the house. Simple. The only regret was that I should have chosen a more prominent laminate for the wardrobe. It just looked stark plain white from far and the tiny flowery details are only visible when you’re like 10cm away. =( Dearie regretted not doing the toilet tiles because he thought they can be washed out. I feel they’re still okie lah, especially after decals were sticked(yet to do). He’s like complaining at least 3 times a day to me. Veryyyy irritating. Hopefully the decals will make a difference and he can…shut…up… =P

Still got a lot of things haven buy. Will probably drop by Carrefour. Free delivery please.

Bought some stuff

Just a super short entry because I’m super busy!

Sadly, we’re not getting the items in the previous previous entry le because just before I order, I heard very very very negative reviews about the seller.

Anyway, went Parkmall today and made a few purchases. =)

From Ecolink
1) Modern Tv console and coffee table set in white $1700
2) French-styled Bedside table in white $410
From bathrooms.sg
3) Mirror cabinet, sink, tap with bottom cabinet set $$769 with delivery

Personally feel they are all good buys considering their design and quality. I love 1) because they came with alot of storage. Lol. Actually 3) also got alot of storage. Haha.

I’m confident of Ecolink’s services because of Qi’s feedback but was wary of bathrooms.sg because heard 1 negative review about them. They also demanded 100% payment when we said delivery can only be done in end Jan. Ecolink only requires 40%. Of course we said no to bathrooms.sg despite they saying it’s their policy. I also got MY policy lor, strictly no FULL payment before delivery or I’ll rather give up the purchase.

Eventually settled on 50% deposit. Hng!

But I still feel I didnt bargain enough. Argghh. Must be more determined in future.

Met up with L too for her favorite foie gras in Tea cosy, who was back from Japan. Sat got to meet up again to discuss her wedding gatecrash. Tomorrow got to meet Master Lim for “opening door ceremony” of new house because we got the keys the day before. Still waiting for quotations!

Super busy!

What I’m eyeing….

Venetian Dressing table with 3-sided mirror and stool

Venetian Bedside table

Victorian Hotel bench

If everything goes well, i.e, shipment in time etc, I will HAVE them. Muahahaha!

I’m so tired scurrying around for info just about every/any thing in regards to our new home, online, offline, inline, outline..furniture, reno, electronics….I’m simply so dead. Am already half sick but I shall hold on! Since T’s housewarming and K’s chalet is on Sunday.
