My Weekend

Met up with darling Jy to kind of celebrate her birthday together with Kel. It was an impromptu decision because I wasnt sure I’m up to drinks yet. It was a lucky coincidence that Kel was available. Very difficult one okie, more difficult than striking toto. =P So we met up for some catching up, also to pass them 2011 calenders and diaries.

Ya I know I look so fat!! Eh no, I’ve becomeeeee so fat!! =(

Actually we had a group foto taken by someone else…but it was blurry. =(

We had our drinks as per usual, plus sotong balls and chicken wings. Ultra sinful. And of course, we treated the birthday girl. =) At this rate, there’s no way I can slim down lah. Maybe it’s better to diet after Chinese New Year, might as well right? Muahahahaha. =P

Happy birthday darling. You know we’ll always love you no matter what. =D Smuacks!!!

They’re planning to come our house on Chu 3, together with their partners and a few other friends. Or maybe a JB seafood trip too! To be confirmed. =)

After a meeting in office, went Orchard to get our printer/scanner/fax and iron. Dearie hor…..somehow stuff just seemed to get spoilt when he’s using it! I just dont understand why! And he always deny responsibility, saying if things bound to be spoilt will be spoilt. =|  I granted that my Epson 5 year old printer’s time should be up but the iron was merely 1+year old! It wasnt really spoilt lah, just that there were some black debris on it and it stained dearie’s shirts. When I asked him how the debris got there to stain his clothes, again he cant answer me. ZzZz. And we cant get off those debris. Err….now that I think of it, were we too impulsive when we just bought another new iron? Nahz, anyway, we bought a Tefal one…and hopefully it’s good. New printer/scanner/fax is from HP.

Because of the stupid S$5 voucher which we drew from the Courts Lucky Draw(must be used on the same day!), ultimately we ended up buying…………….

Hee!! Actually I bio this very long liao. Just that we already had another steamboat cum teppanyaki. Anyway, that was at mummy’s house as it was big and round, more suitable for big group on a round table. I particularly disliked the teppanyaki round surface because it was very narrow. This new one is so much better! See how spacious is the teppanyaki area! Now I no longer have to keep shifting my food and able to keep a better eye on them. =)
Today(sunday), we went NTUC and bought food back, intending to have a steamboat dinner. I marinated the chicken breast and beef slices for 2 hours and they turned out great! For the chicken, I merely used salt, sugar, light soy sauce, pepper and sesame oil. For the beef, I used salt, sugar, yakinuku sauce and black pepper. =) Didnt really had a variety of food because NTUC is so boring. =(  I love our bratwurst sausage though! Super yummy. =)

Review of CORNELL CBG5

It’s really perfect for 2 person! Comes with a 2.3litre pot. With the temperature mode from minimum and then 1 to 5, the steamboat part actually get heated up pretty quickly. Soup can boil in less than 10minutes. In my recollection, it boils much faster than the one I always had. Though if you want it to be faster, you can always fill it with boiling water/soup instead.
Although the temperature knob controls both steamboat and pan grill, it didnt pose much of a problem. The trick is to boil the water first with the highest temperature before dumping your ingredients in. After 45minutes or so, then kickstart your teppanyaki dinner by lowering the temperature to around 3. In this way, the soup will have a nice simmer and it wont be too hot for the grill. Your soup will have a better flavour too. =)
If for some reason, you dont need the steamboat anymore, you can remove the pot and use the area for teppanyaki too. It will then be sufficient for 4 people to grill. Haha! Dearie and me are more of teppanyaki than steamboat people la. =P
What I love the most with this appliance will be the ease to wash and clean! Usually it will a herculean chore to scrub the chao-da(burnt) part off the grill surface. But for this, you can easily wipe off them with disposable kitchen towels. Somehow they will simply flake off very easily, which is marvelous! It might be because of their special grill non-stick surface or something. It’s really great! What’s more, there’s a hole on the grill surface, and that’s actually for you to sweep all the chao-da parts into it. Into where you think? Below it, you can pull out a mini tray and then you can simply throw the waste into the trash bin! Brilliant isnt it! So not only you dont have scrub that hard for the burnt parts, you dont even have to pick them up. Simply sweep them away will do! Of course you still have to wash them with detergent afterwards, but it will be a breeze. =)
Do note it’s easier to clean when it’s warm rather than wait until it’s cool.

Courts member price: S$62, after S$5 voucher = S$57

Wee!! Definitely will be expecting more steamboat and teppanyaki dinner at home!! Hmm yeah, it got a little smokey after a while. We onz both aircon, fan and kitchen hood with all windows open to make sure we’re not too hot and no smoky smell remained. I really love my Rinnai kitchen hood. Although it costs a bomb(to me), it’s definitely worth the money! Because we have an open concept kitchen, a good hood is very very important. I remember it has a 1000m3/hr extraction capacity. If anyone want the model number can message me.

After buying all the electronics at Courts Centrepoint with some shopping and dinner, we met up with some friends for movie. =)

Movie title: Shaolin

Ratings: 4/5

Comments: It was a pretty touching but rather bloody show. Hmm…many scenes made me uneasy with the cruel ways of killing…..there were many scenes which made me cry too. I guess there are many lessons where you can learn from it but I’m not going to preach here. You can watch it if you want. But it’s not a movie where I’ll watch for the second time though. Maybe because there’s not many funny scenes. It’s all kill kill kill………….ZzzZzz.

Actually it’s been very long that I do movie reviews, always forgot about them after watching. =P “Fair Game” sucks, dont watch okie. =P

Dearie’s birthday 2010 Part II @ Park Regis

Continued………………..4th Dec 2010

As compensation, the manager volunteered to treat us a dinner at their restaurant which looks very inviting. Yes, very inviting restaurant but so sadly empty. Hence, actually we also werent very enthu. However, because we checked in so late at 5.30pm. And if we were to go Clarke Quay for dinner(as my planning), it means we only can rest 1+ hour before we need to get dressed and walked to Clarke Quay which was 10minutes away. When you’re tired and hungry, you just dont wish to walk too much. So, we relented and had the dinner at their restaurant downstairs which serves fusion cusine.

My initial planning was dinner at Indochine, Clarke quay, and was fully prepared to sneak out to TCC to smuggle a cake back to surprise him. Since it’s not possible now, I requested a cake from the manager and he said he’s unable to do it! I also asked if his staff can help me buy a cake and I could pay them back but it’s not possible too. Argghhh!! What’s a birthday without a cake?? But dearie said nevermind. Haiz………….

Restaurant at Park Regis

So nice but So empty

The menu was actually….pretty pathetic. Imagine only 3 main courses to choose from. =.= Beef Tenderloin, Pan-seared Salmon and Fish & Chips. Oh, we clarified with the waitress what does the “apology” dinner includes? Since the manager wasnt around. She said anything on the menu are included so long so they’re food. But we have to pay for own drinks.

Our order: Wild mushroom soup, Tiger prawn salad, Beer Tenderloin, Pan-seared Salmon, Tiramisu and 2 scoops of ice-cream (We shared the soup and salad, not greedy okie~)

SURPRISINGLY HOR, the dinner was fantastic!! Especially the tiger prawns caesar and my medium Tenderloin with mushroom sauce. Such a huge and thick slab too! I think it’s 250g or so! Tender and yummy! Even the sides like broccoli, braised carrots and wedges were delicious too! The tiramisu(too moist) and ice-cream(too sweet) did not impress though. Dearie said his salmon was also pretty good, however, it will be better if it can be firmer.

I asked dearie, if we can choose the outcome, would he prefer that we check in punctually or having this complimentary dinner? He chose the latter and I actually agree too! I dont know how much our dinner costs, however, it’s really having good food which matters and not whether it’s complimentary or not. Of course, it’s good to have lah. =) Only kinda remembered the tenderloin costs $38++.

Servers were attentive too, I mean, since we’re the only customers. Haha. When I requested for more mushroom sauce, it came hot too! However, their waitresses really pretty jialat. The elderly one, I got problems deciphering her English. The young Filipino one, was simply….I dont know how to say.

Me: She’s very “innocent” huh

Dearie: Innocent?? Is very blur lor!

Me: Cant you see I’m trying to be nice?

Dearie: Cant you see I’m trying to be nice too, else I’ll add a 4 letter word which starts with “c” behind the word “blur”.

When I ordered a Lychee Martini(S$16++) from her, she registered this super blank look and dont understand what I’m saying. I had to open the menu, searched for that particular item and pointed it out to her.

A very satisfying dinner. The chef said they will be extending their short menu soon, since their hotel and restaurant was still very new. FYI, Park Regis was only opened in mid Nov 2010.

Rest of the night was spent walking around Clarke Quay for digestion of food and buying a bottle of white wine from 7-11 to savour in room.

Wine opener and glasses given on request at as late as 1-2am. Not bad not bad.
And as compensation of the late check-in, we were allowed to check out at 3pm too. But our room dont come with breakfast. Hmm, maybe their restaurant not ready yet? I’m also not sure but their business were good. They ran full-house the previous day and we suspected they over-promised late check-outs, hence the failure to present rooms punctually the next day.

Next day 5th Dec 2010

Lunch at Cream Bistro, Pacific Plaza.

1 for 1 main course for Standard Chartered Cards

Although it says 1 for 1, but they dont allow 1 cod main course for another. =|

So I have to choose the salmon instead.

Dearie’s cod was very nice, crispy and fragrant as we love garlic!

However, my salmon got a very typical salmon fishy smell. Usually salmon have a tad of that smell, just that it’s heavy this time. Didnt manage to finish all of it.

Dont like the avocado milkshake but dearie was okay with it.

We love the cream of asparagus soup though. =)

Went window shopping for awhile before heading home.

Sweet mummy bought Dearie a cake. Great, just nice for compensating my bad. =P

No candles because birthday already over. =P

He very ban-dang one, you know? =P

Actual birthday post just opened to public.

You ask, why so gei-zua? Awhile password protected, awhile no protection.

Ask my hubby loh. Awhile like this, awhile like that. =P

Recent, daily, indulgence. HAHA.

Excuse chosen: I was at Raffles City and the pumps I was wearing was hurting me SO BADLY that I HAVE to buy another pair to change. =)
Isnt it gorgeous……

Excuse chosen: I was telling hubby…”as you know, it’s soOooO difficult for me to buy shoes because feet so small and finally I found a pair of platform wedges of my size to go with my maxi dresses!” It is super comfy and easy to walk. Serious.

Excuse chosen: “This is for work.” I stated matter-of-factly, shrugging. Shoes are perishable goods, my last pair of Heatwave heels is dying soon.
While I’m browsing this last pair…..
Dearie said, “erm honey, for your info lah hor, the shoe cabinet is full liao. Just, for your info lah you know~”

Muahahahah But there’s no stopping me!

Excuse chosen: I’m really crazy with wedges lately lah I admit but this is totally a MUST-HAVE! Where else can you find a strappy and full-of-character wedges of size 3?? It’s super comfy and easy to walk too. I’m so serious.

Causeway point John-little having massive clearance sale. L’oreal having 20%+20% off while most have 20% off. Be sure to check the manufacturing date though. =D

Dearie’s birthday

Alright. This is a super super post-dated post. Actual date is supposed to be 4th Dec, which was dearie’s birthday. But I was too busy to blog about it. As compared to how we used to celebrate birthdays, this year was very simple as we didnt book any hotel stay. But merely a day out.

The wonderful friday started with a lunch. I had reserved Peach Garden at 33(OCBC centre) upon Lina’s recommendation of nice asian dishes. I should have been more inquisitive with the branch she had visited instead of recklessly choosing the branch at OCBC centre 33rd level. Because I thought the view will be wonderful.

Heaven wasnt at our side, it was raining cats and dogs for the afternoon and heavy fog formed on the clear glass windows. It wasnt a view to reckon with too, since the whole sky was filled with stormy, grey clouds. And most importantly, the food seriously disappoints. I should have booked the Novena branch which Lina raved about.

Peach Garden at 33

Dimsum: Xiao Long Bao

Dearie’s sharkfin. Taste like chicken soup to me. Argh!

My sharkfin.

I dont know how to describe the taste but it’s just not nice. I have to admit the portion was pretty big for the price.

Prawns in XO sauce

I had a very SWOLLEN throat that day and was very annoyed that it turned out spicy when it wasnt stated so. And it’s very spicy to me. Meat was too tough too.

Dearie and me lately got so addicted to this dish; stir-fry french beans, that we must order it everytime. Perhaps we got sick of sambal kangkong.

Anyway, it was too salty for me, even paired with rice. And I thought I’m considered a salty eater.

I thought they cant possibly go wrong with the standard dessert; Mango with Pomelo. But they did. Sigh. The taste was not bad but too few mango. I wonder which moron chopped the mangoes because their size is..oh my the size of sago. Who the hell can taste it when it’s so tiny? They melt instantaneously!

Review of Peach Garden
For a premium restaurant, I was appalled at the standard of their food because I think Crystal Jade, Asian Kitchen, Mayim, Mouth Kitchen, just any Asian restaurant I can think of can out-perform them anytime.
The chrysanthemum tea we ordered tasted like plain water and even after I requested TWICE to have more flavour or sweeter, it still tasted the same. I gave up. The bill came up to a hundred plus. You can be sure it will be my last time. To give them credit though, the service was not bad. Not fantastic but not bad.

After our lunch, we went to The Cathay Spa Elements to enjoy our couple jacuzzi and massage. I have to say we’re both very satisfied with their services, considering we signed up their packages over few months ago. This was the 1st time we used the package, merely because we’re too busy and no special occasion.

Look how inviting the jacuzzi look with it’s dazzling and changing lights.

It was a pretty large room and best of all, it all belongs to us, including the shower. Can lock the room too. Wahahaha!

Love the bright cubic tiles in the shower room.

Icy ribena drink

It was truly a very shiok experience because we can control the power and temperature of the jacuzzi, coupled with changing neon lights. =) No more pictures for our massage but it was also great. One might be afraid of chill during a massage in an aircon room especially after a jacuzzi soak but fear not in Spa Elements. The bed actually felt warm! I suspected they put a burner below it. It was so comfy that I fell asleep during the massage, my first time.

After our 1hour massages, Dearie had ear candling which I’ve arranged for him. Hopefully he can listen better in future. Lol. No lah, there are limited stuff a guy can do. Cant possibly ask him do slimming or manicure right? I had RF slimming procedure instead. They merely used an “iron” kinda thing and “ironed” my stomach for half an hour. It’s hot but bearable. Of course it’s not that amazing that that 30min can make me slim how much. Just an experience.

Next up, I’ve arranged a dinner at The Cathay Restaurant since we’re there already.

Fragrant chrysanthemum tea. Win Peach Garden hands down.

Wasabi Prawns

It might look grotesque with it’s slimy green colour but I love this dish! The wasabi was just nice with a slight punch and the prawns were succulent. =) Dearie dont like the wasabi taste though. Opps

Not much of a view but okay la…can people watch.

Seafood soup. Nothing fantastic

Braised scallop with crabmeat. Doesnt taste very fresh.

Deep fried fillet of sea perch in special sauce.
Wonderful. Outer crisp, inner soft.

Tou-fu with seaweed and spinach
Nice! =)

Bill came up to around a hundred. We were too full for dessert and had to rush for our movie, Twilight 2.

Movie title: New Moon

Comments: Somehow the whole show look chaotic to me, it’s like they’re not well-connected and doesnt make much sense. I kinda expected it wont be nice because I read half the book. It would be great if they change the storyline but too bad they didnt. And it was BAD because the young actors/actresses cant act! Jacob, the werewolf was trying hard to act sexy in the show(he was sexy though) and Edward the vampire was acting cool as usual. And Bella, needless to say, act like a zombie after Edward left and an emo freak, falling into Jacob’s arms as and when she likes.

I’m glad dearie enjoyed everything which I planned for him. =D
