Health Issues

Just visited the doctor today. Has been experiencing pain in the stomach consecutively for 3 days. The pain was excruciatingly unbearable. I was told that my intestines has too much air and that’s causing the pain. It wasnt my first time but it has been a long time since the last. I remembered the last time I had it was because Mummy cooked my favourite vegetable, fried longbeans with oyster sauce rather frequently. Because bean products are the major culprits for all those air in the intestines. And this time round, it’s because lately I have been eating soya beancurd at Bugis with dearie. ZzZzz.

It’s all his fault, for the tow huay is really nice. Coupled with the fried “butterfly”, it was a wonderful combination. Dr Tan prescribed 2 medicine for me, 1 to curb the pain and the other to get rid of the air. He also advised me to take less soya and bean products and also less oily and fried food. Haiz. Though I really wish to warn everyone to be careful. Because in extreme cases, gout may be imminent when one takes too much protein-rich foods like bean products. I have a friend who contracted gout just because he drinks soyabean milk every morning and also love to have beer with peanuts in the evenings.

Summation from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Gout (metabolic arthritis) is a disease created by a buildup of uric acid. In this condition, crystals of monosodium urate or uric acid are deposited on the articular cartilage of joints, tendons and surrounding tissues. These crystals cause inflammation and pain, both severe. If untreated, the crystals form tophi, which can cause significant tissue damage.

Gout is characterized by excruciating, sudden, unexpected, burning pain, as well as swelling, redness, warmth, and stiffness in the affected joint. Usually on legs, on joints such as knees, or toes.

The patient usually suffers from two sources of pain. The crystals inside the joint cause intense pain whenever the affected area is moved. The inflammation of the tissues around the joint also causes the skin to be swollen, tender and sore if it is even slightly touched.

The high levels of uric acid in the blood are caused by protein rich foods. Alcohol intake often causes acute attacks of gout and hereditary factors may contribute to the elevation of uric acid. Typically, persons with gout are obese, predisposed to diabetes and hypertension, and at higher risk of heart disease. Gout is more common in affluent societies due to a diet rich in proteins, fat, and alcohol.

Food that reduces risk of gout; beer, seafood, milk, cheese, tart cherries, celery extracts, Dietary supplements Quercetin, a flavonoid.

Food that increases risk of gout; protein-rich foods like tofu, beans, nuts, sugary softdrinks, beer, asparagus, cauliflower, mushrooms, spinach, candy, syrups etc

In general, excess intake of ANY food is not recommended.

So please be careful if soyabean milk is your favourite drink or tow huay is your favourite dessert. =)

Had a short badminton session with dearie in the evening at the court downstairs. We had so much fun mainly because it’s practically our first time to exercise and to play a sport together. Yeah we’re 2 lazy pigs who dont exercise at all and even use the car when we need to go to the central. During the game, we laughed madly at each other whenever we tried to chase the shuttlecock feebly. HAHAHA. We were SO IMMOBILE that we hardly use any energy to run or to play properly. Standing in the center and only stretching our arms to the max. And when dearie did run, oh my god, so funny lah. Because he’s tall and have long legs long arms, and the way he run was soooo…muahahaha…comical…I really laughed till I stomachache. After awhile, I said out loud that we cant continue this way, for the sole purpose is to exercise, to work out! So we must sweat! We must run! Following that was a friendly match, though it was as fun as it was funny. =)
